Every time we taste wines with Stetson Robbins is an educational session in an old old world, very unfamiliar to us here in the new new world of Berkeley. Like, ever heard of Tsolikouri Melqo-Bazaleti?!
.
Stetson's import company focuses on ancient style wine, unheralded terroir and indegenous grapes fermented into wine with pre industrial technology (like this Kvevri or Qvevri also known as Tchuri (Georgian: ჭური)) ...
We're in deep with these wines...
Stetson's wines have the power to transport us to foreign lands, where rustic orange wines are poured freely from clay pitchers over multicourse meals of dumplings and grilled meats.
.
And we're bringing him to our quaint little backyard in North Berkeley to give you a taste of the far east, transporting you all to one of the most exciting regions in the world with a lineup of 5 Georgian stunners...

A light red made from the Dzelshavi grape - one of the oldest grape varietals in Georgia, dating back to the 5th Century AD - made by Gaioz Sopromadze that falls somewhere in between a red wine and a raspberry black tea.

2 wildly fun wines (an orange Pet Nat akin to a peach bellini and a light sour-cherry red of Saperavi) from Georgian winemaking international superstar Gotsa.

A blend of two indigenous varietals (Tsitsqa and Tsolikouri) that takes you straight to coastal Italy - one of the most precise and elegant Georgian wines we've ever had!
.
And it wouldn't be a Georgian wine tasting without an amber wine, a stunning expression of Krakhuna from Amiran, giving salted preserved orange and creme brule on the nose.
.
Here's the lineup -
  • Gotsa Mandrini Pet Nat
  • Gia Jamberidze Tsitsqa Tsolikouri
  • Amiran Krakhuna
  • Gotsa Saperavi
  • Gaioz Sopromadze Dzelshavi
