Many of you know Jason Lefler. Our friend and colleague ran Solano Cellars for years, with an infectious sort of joie de everything that tended to inspire everyone around him.
Wine ambassadors come in many forms and styles. But amidst the myriad suits and somms? There exists another type: a species of human drawn to wine not for reasons of mastery or pretense, but for one reason and one reason only: because of the way it connects humans and enlarges their experience.

After leaving the VB/SC ecosystem, Jason created one of the coolest recent projects in all of Californian wine: Stereophonic. Classic wine styles from Napa, Paso Robles and the Central Coast are suddenly re-imagined via the Leflerian lens, with no question left un-asked; inspirations are drawn from a wild range of art, cinema, music, literature and gaming.
Fall is when winemakers are usually at their busiest: in addition to making myriad post-harvest decisions, this is also the quarter where they recoup their investments by working the market and — yes — selling some wine.

But Jason was recently dealt an extraordinary setback. Diagnosed with a hyper-rare blood infection, he lost over 40 pounds in two months, and may have to have his spleen and part of his pancreas removed. (See Jason above, with three different IV ports in his arm.) If there were ever a harvest-time curveball for the ages? This is it.
